Item 18. yüzyılda Osmanlılar'da iatrokimya çalışmaları: Avrupa ile mukayeseli ve Ömer Şifai'nin çalışmaları esas alınarak(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 1997) Koç, Ayten; Kahya, Esin; FelsefeABSTRACT This thesis is dealing with activities in the field of chemistry in the XVIIIth century Ottoman Empire taking as its basis the work "Mürşid el- Muhtar fi Dm el-Esrar" written by one of the representatives of iatrochemistry trend in Ottoman State Bursalı Ömer Şifaî (?-1742). In the thesis the above mentioned text was transmissed to modern Turkish language with necessary critical-editorial work being done and an effort was made to show the condition of chemistry in the XVIIIth century Ottoman Empire. Iatrochemistry trend was established by Paracelsus(1493-1541) in XVIth century. In his work Ömer Şifaî presented various metals, compositions obtainned as the reault of subjecting metals to chemical operations and ways and forms of their usage in medical treatment of diseases. Such a work reflects the general characteristics of the texts on iatrochemistry, and Ömer Şifaî has reflected the iatrochemistry trend in the XVIIIth century Ottoman chemistry activities. Therefore, this work has secured separation from alchemical activities in Ottoman Empire and transition to chemical acthivities, on the one hand, and beginning of the process of passing to the modern chemistry, on the other hand. Besides this, it has cotributed to a considerable extent to formation of the chemical terminology in Ottoman Turkey.Item Aykut Kazancıgil(1992) Kahya, EsinItem Fargani'nin 'Kitab el-Fusul' adlı astronomi eseri üzerine bir araştırma(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 1996) Unat, Yavuz; Kahya, Esin; FelsefeAl-Farghânî, known as Alfraganus in the West, was one of the famous astronomers who had worked in Memun's dynasty. The Elements of Astronomy, which had been written by aJ-Farghânî, was one of the most popular books in astronomy in the West and in the East as well, and had been used as a handbook in astronomy until about fifteenth centuries. This work was written about 833 AD. It consisted of thirty parts and was about celestial motions and included a complete study on the science of the stars. Although it was a summary of Ptolemy's Almagest, some sections of the book were different from Almagest. Al-Farghânî had also presented the scientific knowledge of his time. For this reason, we assume that the book was kind of supplement of Almagets. This point of view indicates the reason why The Elements of Astronomy had immensely influenced the Western astronomy as well as the Eastern astronomy for a long time.Item Hacı Paşa(1992) Kahya, EsinItem Ömer Şifaî(1993) Kahya, EsinItem Osmanlı İmparatorluğunda deneysel fizyolojinin kuruluşu(1991) Kahya, Esin
