Abstract
his thesis addresses comparatively Kazakhstan's and Kyrgyzstan's relations with the Russian Federation. It is argued that despite these two Central Asian states' similar historical backgrounds and their similar type of relation with the former hegemonic power Russia, their relations nonetheless differ within their own contexts. In this framework, the introductory chapter gives general information about Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan's standings in Central Asia. In the first chapter the historical background of the two states' relations with Russia is narrated. In the second chapter Kazakhstan's bilateral agreements with Russia, the economic side of their relations and their involvement at multilateral international platforms between the 1991-2001 and 2001-2014 periods are analyzed. In the concluding chapter, Kazakhstan's and Kyrgyzstan's relations with Russia are compared in the light of notions developed from the thesis, and the assumptions in the introductory chapter are examined.
