Abstract
In our thesis, we studied whether Jewish-Muslim dialogue is possible or not in terms of Judaism. View of Judaism to Islam and Muslims consists of positive and negative approaches together. The Jewish rabbis accept Islam closer to Judaism in terms of doctrine and tradition. They accept Muslims who observe to the Noahide Laws as Noahides and adopt the opinion of Muslims would reach the salvation.According to Torah, the notion of being all of the people brothers at Adam and coming from him is important for the beginning of the interreligious dialogue or the interfaith dialogue in terms of Judaism. Jews do not believe the salvation is only in their religion and it shows that they are open to dialogue. Some modern Jewish rabbis advocate to the necessity of engaging to the interreligious dialogue and approach positively, some of them approach negatively and some of them approach to the dialogue initiatives with suspicion. In terms of Judaism the interreligious dialogue between Jews and non-Jews and particularly Jews and Muslims is not possible generally on theological issues. But it is possible on secular and universal issues such as economical, social, cultural, scientific and moral etc. There are some obstacles which makes the Jewish-Muslim dialogue difficult. These are theological, political, social and economical obstacles, anxiety, fear, mistrust, misunderstanding, prejudices, suspicion and lack of information of both sides about each other; the closure of Jewish community in its own, and not able to communicate Jews and Muslims with each other etc.The approaches of Jewish denominations to the interreligious dialogue consist of positive and negative opinions. At the present day, Orthodox Jews have been avoiding the interreligious dialogue and have been seldom participating it. Unlike Orthodox Judaism, Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative, Liberal and Progressive Jewish communities have positive approaches to the interreligious dialogue. Jewish leaders who venture into the fields of the Jewish-Muslim dialogue face criticism.
