Abstract
This thesis has been prepared to search and reveal the methods and the strategies that are developed to prevent the loss of biodiversity and the fragmenatation of ecosystems which not only causes economic decrements but also affects the human beings adversely in their daily life.At the beginning of the study, the problem appeared due to the decline of natural resources and deterioration of the ecosystem structures and habitats is introduced, then the evolving process of the ?ecosystem approach? concept, that has been presented as the strategy to reach the main goals, such are conservation of the biodiversity that are crucial for humans, sustainable use of them, and the equitable sharing of the benefits gained from the ecosystems. Afterwards the twelve principles of the ?ecosystem approach? are examined in detail.Then, the important legal documents, which are prepared and taken into force both on national and international levels and concerned with ?ecosystem approach?, are analyzed briefly within the time framework.At the end of the study, national and international case studies about the implementation of ecosystem approach itself and the principles of ecosystem approach are given.Finally; the assessments concerned with the subject are made.
