Abstract
This thesis focuses on the Ottoman pottery culture in 18th century with an approach of functional view based on the Sûrnâme-i Vehbi, which illustrates the circumcision ceremony of sons of Sultan Ahmed III in 1720, as the main visual material, trying to link to socio-cultural history.In this context, the main focus is to examine the material, color, figure and function of vessels described in miniatures of Surname-i Vehbi classified into several categories based on the theme of paintings: the banquet; the parade of guilds; circus shows; gift giving; visiting Old Serail. The price of those vessels at the market place and the customs at the time were also examined as well.The conclusion of this thesis explains a part of Ottoman culture in 18th century.
